TFESC03 is a compact electronic speed controller for three-phase BLDC and PMSM motors, built around Texas Instruments’ MCF8316C-Q1. It is designed for embedded systems where space, wiring simplicity, and predictable motor control matter more than generic hobby ESC behavior. Instead of relying on a MCU firmware for commutation, the core driver uses integrated sensorless Field Oriented Control, so the board can run as a configurable standalone motor controller once set up. Configuration is stored in EEPROM, which makes TFESC03 suitable for fixed-purpose systems that need repeatable startup and operation without external tuning logic at every boot.
This board was made for applications that need a small, efficient BLDC controller with a simple digital interface. It is ideal for UAV avionics, robotics, compact propulsion systems, fans, pumps, and other embedded motion platforms where I2C integration is useful and PCB area is limited. Compared with simpler six-step trapezoidal drivers, the sensorless FOC approach improves control quality and helps reduce acoustic noise.
TFESC03 is the combination of miniature form factor and unusually high diagnostic features. The driver supports 4.5 V to 35 V operation, up to 8 A peak phase current, integrated MOSFETs with typical combined RDS(on) of 95 mΩ, built-in current sensing. The TFESC03 has status LEDs, fault indication, and speed feedback.
You need a compatible 3-phase BLDC motor, a DC power source and flight controller with suitable I2C driver. Thermal management must be considered for sustained higher-current use.
TFESC03 is not a beginner plug-and-play hobby ESC. It is best suited for users comfortable with BLDC motor systems, power wiring, I2C integration, and configuration of embedded motor drivers. The hardware is compact, but the intended audience is technical and system-oriented.
Power cables for connecting are not included in the package by default. You must purchase the additional cables separately from catalog. We offer high-quality cables that are compatible with the Pixhawk standard and with a ThunderFly color scheme for easy signal identification. ThunderFly cables are specifically designed with improved resistance to electromagnetic interference and a silicone insulator that makes them highly flexible.
The product is gradually evolving and improving based on user requirements. Currently, the TFESC03A revision is being shipped. In the development process, we keep backward compatibility, for example by keeping the same form factor or communication interface.
