What is it?

A genuine Waveshare 7.5" E-paper panel with black boarder and laminated glass, with one of my controller boards.

Works with ESPhome, etc, can make weather station, general display, clock, etc.

Three options of controller board...

Base controller

  • Development board, pre-loaded with my code, can be easily flashed with other code like ESPhome
  • ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4-R2 (Dual core, 4M flash, 2M SPI RAM)
  • Genuine Waveshare 7.5" e-paper, 800x480 mono, laminated glass, black border, panel
  • 24 WS2812 LEDs around edge, plus 1 by SD slot
  • Micro SD card slot
  • USB-C (2 alternate positions) for power / serial / programming
  • WAGO 2 pin for external power 5V-17V
  • WAGO 2 pin for contact switch (e.g. door bell)
  • Button-fix wall mount

NFC controller

As above plus PN532 NFC controller and antenna in middle of controller usable through the panel. Can work NFC controller for things like door entry / sign in / etc, or as a card for things like NTAG. PN532 can also be linked to an external device and power independent to the e-paper controller (e.g. for access control systems).

Ultimate controller

As above plus environmental sensors...

  • Better LEDs (less likely to get knocked off the board), and one extra LED
  • T3902 microphone for sound level
  • SHT40 temperature sensor
  • SCD41 CO₂ sensor
  • GZP6816D atmospheric pressure sensor
  • WAGO for DS18B20 temperature sensors
  • Tamper switch (linked to NFC reader)
  • Switched 3.3V power output

No leads supplied.

Why did you make it?

  • My front door - interactive doorbell - and now NFC linked to door entry system
  • Local Indian has one as a clock
  • Local pub has one as a clock and WiFi QR, etc.
  • Loads of people used them for environmental status tied to Home Assistant, etc

What makes it special?

The normal 7.5" panel has an exposed panel white border, but this model is laminated to a glass front with a black border - it makes for an excellent clean finish.

The controller is fitted to the back of the panel and has a button fix wall mount, meaning it can be mounted without a case, and the border LEDs reflecting off the wall.

NFC is a very rare feature - designed to work with cards or fobs through the panel.

And now lots of environmental sensors.

Doorbell?

This is not designed to be waterproof, it is a development board, but suitable acrylic spray on the back should suffice in most cases if not too exposed (as on my own front door) and a simple 3D printed support/surround woudl work well.
