Unfortunately, due to logistics reasons beyond my control, miniRGBii will not be returning to Tindie in the foreseeable future. Stay tuned by joining the Wii mini Hacking Discord, checking the GitHub project page or following me on Twitter @PanosDevnol for updates. Expect new orders to open up around September, since until then I'm very busy with studying for finals. I apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
Ever wondered where all the Wii features went from the Wii mini? Well, turns out the missing Component video, WiFi card, reset switch, SD card slot and GameCube controllers all have parts of them still in the console. All that was needed to restore them was murdering a few consoles (for science!) and a little clever work designing custom boards and reverse engineering what the test points on the motherboard do. Enter Pimp My mini: the latest and greatest technology brought to you by the Wii mini Hacking community.
This tiny (1.5*2.5cm) board (along with some software modifications) is all that's needed to make your Wii mini, that beautiful forgotten little piece of Nintendo history output a Good Enoughâ„¢ signal to use on your TV or to properly upscale (with an external converter) to modern resolution standards.
This little board easily fits inside your console and sits between the Audio-Video Encoder (AVE chip) and the Multi-out AV port, in order to filter the frequencies required for crisp component video.
Then, you can simply connect any compatible Wii Component Video cable (sold separately, so you can pick whatever brand and quality you like, or even get a SCART cable if you're feeling extra fancy), install the full Wii System Menu and kapow! Gorgeous progressive scan hallelujah!
miniRGBii is a result of over a year of work from various members of the community, including DeadlyFoez, who did the preliminary research for the Component circuitry, as well as Job Feikens who helped me learn about analog video and using KiCad. I would also like to thank the BitBuilt community for being absolute madlads with documenting the original Wii's board designs. Without any one of these people, this project would never have been possible and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
Installation steps are clearly documented on the Pimp My mini guide, and our community on Discord is always there to help you!
Warning: Installing this mod requires proficient soldering skills, as soldering to IC pins of 0.5mm pitch, among others, is needed. Please ensure you (or someone you know) can install this before you proceed with your purchase. You may also join the Wii mini Hacking Discord, where someone from the community might be able to do it for you.
Note: This product is ONLY compatible with the Wii mini (RVL-201). The Wii (RVL-001) or Wii Family Edition (RVL-101) already have this feature built-in.
If you have a Wii mini and you like this mod, you may also want to have a look at our other Pimp My mini mods, including webhdx's custom SD/reset switch board, the sdrst and his ready-to-install WiFi adapter kit.
