About:

This is a kit to make an I2C Interface for the RC2014. There are numerous really interesting devices (especially sensors) out there that can only be communicated to via I2C. Most of these devices have at least one library written to make it easy to talk to them from an Arduino. MG017 provides an I2C Interface for RC2014 that makes interfacing easier by using these libraries.

MG017 features a microcontroller, which can then use Arduino libraries to do the hard work of communicating to the I2C device. The microcontroller interfaces to RC2014 using standard input and output commands which can be accessed by BASIC.

MG017 provides the following interfaces:

  • I2C (both 3.3V and 5V supply/logic level)
  • UART serial from the microcontroller (mainly for debugging)
  • ICSP (for reprogramming the microcontroller in place)
  • And naturally, the standard RC2014 bus.

What's included?

A PCB and all components required are included, including sockets for all ICs. A PDF with full instructions is available at the link below. The microcontroller is supplier preloaded with a sketch to enable communication with the BME280 Pressure/Temperature/Humidity sensor.

What's not included?

The I2C device and the wires to connect it to MG017. Both of these are available from eBay and multiple online stores.

For I2C devices other than BME280, buyers will need a way to get new sketches into the microcontroller, either an Arduino Uno (or similar, see instructions) or USB programmer (again, see instructions).

Please Note:

Please note that to get the most out of MG017 some knowledge of how to program using the Arduino IDE is required (elementary C programming skills should be enough)

MG017 has been designed for RC2014 with reference to the RC2014 Module Template. All pinouts used and the physical outline are in compliance with the RC2014 Module Template.

RC2014 is a trademark of RFC2795 Ltd.

MG017 has been designed for hobbyist use only and is not to be used for safety or business critical applications.

The payment of any import taxes and duties will be the responsibility of the Buyer.
