What is it?

MegaGRRL Desktop is a DIY-focused respin of the original MegaGRRL Portable Sega Genesis Video Game Music Player. It has the same features as the original (minus battery power), but the hardware has been redesigned for lower cost, and ease of DIY assembly.

Why did you make it?

Projects like welding are easy.
This product has been licensed for commercial production and sales by kunoichilabs.

What makes it special?

The diffuse reflection effect brought by the translucent acrylic protective film is so dreamy and it feels so good.

The crystal-like appearance and sound quality are like magic. I think MegaGRRL has become another form at this moment. The user experience is very different from that without the shell.

Now MegaGRRL Desktop can stand on the desktop and become a piece of furniture or a work of art. 😂 It seems that the next step is to adapt a wireless remote control for MegaGRRL to make it a piece of furniture like a CD player.

This is a modular offline hardware VGM player. It does not need to rely on the computer as the host computer like SPFM, and supports many music modules. Currently I sell the following modules:

Unofficial firmware support:
MA-3, NES MegaMod.

This price only includes the MegaGRRL Desktop host, and does not include any music chips or music modules. In fact, the price of Yamaha chips continues to rise, and I can't give chips away.

MegaGRRL Desktop includes a fully assembled and tested motherboard, a 3D printed base, 9V DC power supply, 1GB Micro SD, and the latest version 0.99dev firmware is pre-installed.

The MegaGRRL Desktop I made has the following features:

1. Multi-color LEDs to distinguish square wave channel (yellow LED) and noise channel (green LED) of PSG channel, FM channel (blue) and PCM channel (white)
   
2. The RN2 block used for uploading firmware and SD card multiplexing uses a round hole socket, which is easy to plug and unplug to upload firmware, which is very convenient and does not require repeated soldering.
   
3. All MegaMods use a combination of round hole pin headers and DIP sockets to reduce damage to the DIP socket on the MegaGRRL motherboard and prolong the service life.
