Recover Microchip UPDI devices without a PC. This standalone programmer restores the factory fuse settings even if the UPDI pin has been reconfigured as a GPIO.
The programmer powers the target device and operates exclusively from a 5 V supply.
The programmer applies a 12 V recovery pulse to re-enable the UPDI interface. It then programs the device's fuses back to their factory default values, allowing normal UPDI communication to be restored.
Only the devices listed below are supported.
3-Wire Mode
Connect: VCC GND UPDI
4-Wire Mode
Connect: VCC GND UPDI RESET

Most devices can be recovered in about one second.
If the UPDI interface has been accidentally disabled, this programmer can restore the device instead of requiring a replacement. With component availability often limited, recovering an existing device can save both time and cost.
To preserve the program memory on supported ATtiny devices, install jumper J1 to skip the chip erase operation.
Important: If the device lock bits are programmed, recovery without an erase is not possible. In this case, the erase operation must be enabled.
Once the fuses have been restored, the device can again be accessed using any standard UPDI programmer.
Success Green LED ON (steady) The device was successfully recovered.
Yellow LED flashes twice The device is locked. This occurs only when J1 is installed to skip the erase operation.
Yellow LED flashes three times UPDI communication error. Verify the wiring, ensure a supported device is connected, and confirm the device is recoverable.
Yellow LED flashes four times The connected device is not supported.
Yellow LED ON (steady) Fuse verification failed after programming.
