Why DAFM? Every DAFM uses a genuine vintage Yamaha FM chip on the board, so you hear the real hardware, not a software emulation of it.

What is it?

Sound synthesis through Frequency Modulation (FM) allows unique sounds that defined a musical generation in the 80s and 90s. The Genesis model uses the YM2612 (or YM3438) Yamaha chip from the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive home console.

NEW Version 1.98 includes presets from iconic Genesis/Megadrive videogames like Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3; Streets of Rage 1 and 2; Toe Jam & Earl, Panic on Funkotron; Ecco the Dolphin; Time Trax; Thunderforce IV and Chakan - The Forever Man in bank 0. Bank 1 loads up to 128 presets from the SD card. Check the Datasheet for details.

What makes it special?

The YM2612 has six channels with four operators per channel and eight algorithms. ADSR envelopes, frequencies and LFOs can be modified for the full range of FM sounds.

The YM2612 has the classic "ladder effect" crossover distortion fans know. The YM3438 is a CMOS version with a louder, cleaner output and no ladder effect. Choose YM2612 for nostalgic grit or YM3438 for cleaner FM. OLEDs can be dimmed to reduce noise at the output.

Operated with 2 rotary encoders and a menu on 4 blue OLED displays, plus a 12-note tactile keyboard and octave change. Presets save to RAM or SD card as DMP files compatible with VGM trackers like Deflemask.

Stereo 3.5 mm output, MIDI input, USB Type B power (5V).
