These are designed as a drop-in replacement for the original aging and power hungry ROMs. Unlike other designs and 28 to 24 pin EPROM adaptors, these hide all the ugly stuff out of sight to provide the cleanest possible look. Just make sure not to short the exposed joints on the top of the ROMs to anything metal (like an RF shield).

Power consumption is around 4mA (20mW) vs the 85mA (425mW) of the original mask ROMs. As such these run completely cool and consume a fraction of the power, ensuring they will almost certainly outlast all the originals and help lower the overall tempreature of your machine.

Be sure to select the correct Kernal for your machine. NTSC uses a 6560-101 VIC and 14.31818MHz crystal, PAL uses a 6561-101 VIC and 8.867238MHz crystal

The character ROM comes in two flavours:

• 901460-03 - Standard drop-in replacement
• 901460-03/901225-01 - Switchable between VIC-20 and C64 fonts

901460-03/901225-01 (formerly named 901460-03+) includes a small switch on the bottom edge that sticks out by 1mm from the underside of the PCB. It is safe to switch fonts while the machine is running.

All ROMs are hand assembled and tested before shipping.
