Recover "bricked" AVR microcontrollers in seconds. No computer required. Note: This item requires minor assembly. The IC sockets are included but are not installed, allowing you to configure the socket arrangement for the devices you plan to use.
What Is It?
The AVR High Voltage Parallel Fuse Recovery Programmer is a standalone recovery tool designed to restore the fuse settings of supported AVR microcontrollers to their factory defaults using the High Voltage Parallel Programming (HVPP) method.
If you accidentally:
Simply insert a supported AVR device in the correct socket, connect power, and the programmer automatically performs the recovery operation. No computer or programming software is required.
Simple Status Indication
The recovery result is displayed immediately using the onboard LEDs. Green LED – Recovery completed successfully. Yellow LED – Programming error or recovery failed.
Preserve Your Existing Firmware
One of the most useful features of this programmer is the ability to restore fuse settings without erasing the Flash or EEPROM. Installing jumper J1 skips the chip erase operation, allowing your application firmware and EEPROM data to remain intact while the factory fuse settings are restored.
Important: If the target device has its lock bits programmed, the chip must be erased before the fuse recovery can succeed.
In this case: Remove jumper J1 The erase operation will be performed Flash and EEPROM contents will be erased during recovery
Why I Designed It
Anyone who works with AVR microcontrollers has eventually experienced the frustration of accidentally programming the wrong fuse settings. Back in 2008, while developing firmware, I managed to lock myself out of my last AVR device. After waiting for replacement parts more than once, I decided there had to be a faster solution than relying on a computer, software, USB drivers, and complicated recovery procedures. So I designed one. Since then, this programmer has become an indispensable tool in my own workshop, saving countless devices that would otherwise have been considered unusable.
Terminal/Advanced Mode for Additional Devices
If your AVR device is not included in the supported device list, it may still be recoverable using Terminal Mode, provided it supports High Voltage Parallel Programming (HVPP).
Terminal Mode requires:
A USB-to-TTL serial converter (not included) Any standard terminal program configured for 9600 baud Complete connection instructions are provided in the user guide.
Power Requirements
For reliable operation, use a DC power supply that provides: More than 14.5 VDC Positive-center polarity A power supply is not included. This helps reduce both the purchase price and shipping cost. Before use, verify the output voltage and polarity of your power supply with a voltmeter.
Documentation
Your purchase includes: Assembly and operating instructions A link to download the complete user guide Please read the user guide before using the programmer.
Technical Support
You are purchasing directly from the original designer, not a reseller. If you have questions before or after your purchase, I provide direct technical support and will do my best to help you recover and program your AVR devices successfully. Whether you're restoring a single development board or recovering multiple production devices, you'll receive knowledgeable support from someone who designed and uses this programmer regularly.
